It could be a long and wintry cold season ahead for the southern Great Lakes region. The polar vortex could deliver a pulsating blend of cold and normal fronts to produce big lake effect snow early on in January. The season is set to extend into April of 2020.

The cold prognosis will affect weather for Chicago, Detroit, Cleveland, St Louis, up state New York, Philadelphia, Indianapolis, and other midwest cities.
